scottish_football_league The 2008/09 Scottish First Division season kicks off on the 2nd August. Airdrie United and Ross County are new additions to the league this season, while Stirling Albion where relegated to the Second Division. Queen of the South play in Europe for only the second time in their history following their fantastic Scottish Cup run last season. Livingston have new owners in the shape of an Italian consortium that brought Celtic legend (and former Livingston manager) Davie Hay back to the club.

We’re tipping Dundee to come up - the Dee’s have finished second last season, third the season before that. They had a comfortable season in last years campaign, never letting go of that second spot. With Hamilton promoted, their only competition could come in the form of Perth rivals St Johnstone. The Saints finished eleven points behind Dundee, but expect a close race this season.

As for the relegation battle - hard to say. Clyde where poor last season, only turning on the style when it mattered most i.e. the playoff games. They beat Airdrie United in the final quite convincingly. The two sides meet again this year in the league - will it be as easy second time around? We pick Morton to join the Bully Wee at the bottom come the end of the season.

The team to watch? It’s got to be Queen of the South - great name, great story. European football on the back of a fantastic Scottish Cup run that took them past Dundee and Aberdeen and to a final against Rangers where they where unlucky to lose having pushed the Gers hard all the way.

Airdrie welcome league leaders Dundee. Dingwall side Ross County are finding the going tough in their new division so far having lost both their game so far. They take on Clyde. Two sides that are just a point apart meet when Morton entertain Linvingston at Cappielow. Perth side St. Johnstone play Dunfermline in the First division tie of the weekend.

On Sunday 17th August Queen of the South play Partick Thistle - will the Doonhamers be on a high following their first European game?
