They’ve had their share of big names through their changing-room doors. Scotland internationals Alan Hansen, Mo Johnston, Alan Rough and Arthur Duncan all played at the club at some point. Like a lot of Scottish lower division clubs The Jags have seen their fair share of financial difficulties, even coming very close to administration in 1998. A supporter-led campaign, Save the Jags, did what it said on the tin: they saved the club from going out of business, if not from relegation to the Second Division. In the First Division since 2006, Thistle finished 6th last season but expect them to finish higher this year - not quite promotion material, but second or third place should be achievable. |

Sharing a city with two football clubs of the stature that Celtic and Rangers have must be hard. Partick Thistle, and possibly also Queens Park, life with the Old Firm has been hard. On the few occasions they shared a division Thistle have always been the ‘other Glasgow’ team. Never exactly shining, just surviving would sum it up nicely. That’s not to say that Thistle have never achieved much (they’ve won both of Scotland’s senior Cup Competitions and are giants amongst men in the Glasgow Cup), but compared to their more illustrious neighbours they’re distinctly average.
